Community Projects

MAION partners with individuals, non-profit organizations, schools, businesses and town or city managers to create mosaic projects that bring forth the shared values of respect, understanding and pride of environment.

Each project is priced individually which enables sponsoring organizations to best meet their objectives.

Participants have the satisfaction of creating beauty through the creation of a group art project and they gain a renewed sense of investment and pride in their community.

2012 - 2013  "As Trees Give Life to Their Branches" enhances the beauty and interest of downtown Natick.  Adults and young artists from the community were involved in the design and production of these colorful tile mosaics that fit into six brick archways on the Court Street side of the Fair and Yeager Insurance building.  Young children have participated by submitting colorful self-portrait drawings and drawings of trees with local wildlife.  Six designs emerged, drawn by Carol using elements from the children's drawings.  After being enlarged, they were copied onto Wedi tile backer boards and reproduced in mosaics by the artist, with assistance from local volunteers. The mosaic panels were installed as they were finished, and attached in the brick archways.  The five smaller arches have children’s portraits in various seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Summer Night and Fall.  The taller arch is called "The Measuring Tree" with markings at every foot for parents to photograph their children as they grow.

This project has been sponsored by Betsy & Tim LePain, Middlesex Savings Bank, David Y Rhee, Natick Cultural Council,  MetroWest Tourism & Visitors Bureau, Palettes, Five Crows, Rotary Club of Natick, Natick Education Foundation, Anonymous, Steve Levinsky & Denise Girardin, Horigan Dye family, Mitchell family, Zogby family, Fair & Yeager Insurance, Catherine & Andrew Bendheim, Mary Burke & Richard Whalen, and Ricky & Jay Ball. Also with in-kind donations from Scott Libby Construction, yikes! Pottery, Tiles Plus More, RPJ Associates, Liliana Bead, Marie Craig Photography, Maureen Sullivan of Natick Bulletin & Tab, Tilly & Salvy's bacon Street Farm, and Lauren Berkowitz with her Advanced Ceramics Class at Natick High School.

Under the guidance of their teacher, the Advanced Ceramics Class at Natick High School made clay animals, birds and leaves during the winter-spring semester of 2012.  More clay elements were made at yikes! Pottery Studio with the help of wonderful volunteers Denise, Ginger and Nancy.  Carol stamped names of the many participating children and adults onto the clay before it was bisqued, glazed and fired.  Working in her studio with her volunteer adult mosaic students, the Measuring Tree was completed and installed by July of 2012.  The other panels followed in September and November of 2012, and the final two in March of 2013.  With Scott the builder's installation expertise, the six panels are now up for all to enjoy!
